Hello
I'm Dion, the Art Hopper
I love organising things. Honestly, I get twitchy feet if there isn’t some kind of creative event on the horizon to plan and bring to life. Give me a table full of craft supplies, a room full of friendly faces and a date in the diary, and I’m very happy.
Creativity is such an important part of who I am. It’s joyful, grounding and powerful. I see it every time a group gathers at one of my seasonal Late Create evenings in Trull — the chat, the laughter, the quiet concentration, the pride in what’s been made. Making time to create isn’t indulgent; it’s essential. It helps us think differently, solve problems and reconnect with ourselves.

I organise creative events and workshops that bring people together in a relaxed and low pressure way. Alongside Late Create, I programme LEARN at Taunton Brewhouse, working with brilliant artists and makers to build a varied, inspiring year-round programme for all ages. I also run my own hands-on workshops, sharing the crafts and skills I love most often using scrap or recycled materials.

Supporting other creatives is something I care deeply about too. My How to Start Running Workshops session is designed for artists and makers who are ready to begin teaching their own workshops. I share everything I’ve learnt — from planning and pricing to risk assessments and marketing — in a practical, encouraging way that helps turn ideas into reality. Many who have already taken it are now running their own sessions.

The name Art Hopper has been with me since 2008 (it’s stuck for good!). Over the years it’s taken many forms, from artist studio tours to holiday clubs and preschool art groups, but the heart of it has always been the same: making creativity accessible, welcoming and full of joy.

If you’re looking for a relaxed, friendly space to make something with your hands, I’d love to welcome you to a Late Create evening or one of my workshops. Or if you’re an artist with an idea for a class, do get in touch; I’m always excited to discover new creatives working in Somerset.
